Why I Built Kindred

I built Kindred because every dating app I tried made me feel like I was the problem.

The swiping, the small talk, the pressure to respond immediately — it all felt designed for a brain that works differently than mine. I'd match with someone, stare at the chat window for an hour trying to figure out what to say, and eventually just close the app. The anxiety of "did I reply fast enough?" and "are they reading my message right now?" was exhausting.

I know I'm not alone in this. The neurodivergent community is full of people who want connection — romantic, platonic, or something in between — but the tools we have for finding it weren't built with us in mind.

So I built one that was.

The Problem With Dating Apps

Most dating apps are designed for neurotypical patterns of interaction. They reward quick responses, read receipts create anxiety, and the matching algorithms rarely account for the things that actually matter to us — like whether someone understands sensory overload, or communicates in a way that feels safe.

For autistic people, people with ADHD, and other neurodivergent folks, these aren't minor inconveniences. They're barriers.

"I spent years thinking I was just bad at dating. Turns out I was just using apps that weren't built for how my brain works."

What Makes Kindred Different

No Read Receipts

You'll never know when someone has read your message but hasn't replied. No green dots. No "seen" timestamps. Just async communication on your own time.

Sensory Preferences

Indicate whether you prefer quiet spaces, dim lighting, outdoors, or crowds. Match with people who share your sensory comfort zone.

Communication Style

Are you direct and clear? Do you need time to respond? Do you prefer detailed messages or brief ones? Put it on your profile so everyone knows what to expect.

Social Battery

Low, medium, or high — and it's okay if it varies. Let potential matches know where your social energy is at, no explanations needed.

Neurotype Matching

Share your neurotype — autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, or neurotypical — and see compatibility based on shared experiences.

Interest-Based Compatibility

List your special interests and hyperfixations. Kindred matches you based on what you're actually passionate about.

Privacy First

No data sold, no algorithmic manipulation. Your profile, your preferences, your pace.

Built by an ND, for NDs

This isn't a corporate diversity initiative. It's one neurodivergent person building something the community actually needs.

How It Works

It's simple: create a profile with your preferences, set your communication style and social battery, list your interests, and start browsing. The compatibility algorithm shows you how well you match with someone based on shared neurotype, sensory preferences, communication style, social battery, and interests — not just a photo and a three-sentence bio.

Free users get 10 profile views per day. Premium users get unlimited views, an early adopter badge, and priority support. Premium starts at $5/month or $50 for lifetime access — because accessibility shouldn't be a luxury.
